Update: CoLearn has now evolved and currently provides children in Indonesia a convenient, affordable, and high-quality alternative to traditional offline tutoring with live, interactive classes. To learn more, please click here.

CoLearn is an EdTech platform that empowers tuition centres and tutors to create online learning experiences for their students. CoLearn’s mission is to improve education standards for Indonesia’s youth to make the country globally competitive.

The app makes both teaching and learning easier by offering online classes, as well as live-streamed homework and exam assistance. The app, which was launched in January 2020, features a practice platform that allows students to learn independently and at their own pace, with the help of hints and solutions to each problem. It also helps tutors get a better understanding of each student’s strengths and weaknesses through a real-time dashboard.

Currently, over 80% of tuition centres in Indonesia are family-owned businesses or small chains, with limited to no knowledge of tech. Students traditionally visit tuition centres after school or on weekends to study, revise for their exams, or get help with homework. With CoLearn, students can continue to learn after their offline class or without having to leave their home, and still receive guidance from their regular tutors.

Colearn also has an affiliate brand in IQ Education, founded in late 2018, which operates flagship offline tuition centres. Both Colearn and IQ Education were founded by Abhay Saboo and Marc Irawan. Abhay is a Harvard Business School graduate who was selected as an Asia 21 Young Leader, and previously co-founded VivaHealth, while Marc, who graduated from the University of British Columbia, had a career in tech and management consulting, and taught STEM classes for kids on weekends.
