Types of Surge Protection

Surge protectors are valuable home safety tools in that they help to keep valuable equipment in the home protected against any dangerous power surges. In fact, one of the best things about these tools is that there are all sorts of different types of surge protectors available. These include professionally installed protectors for major services and smaller protectors for standard electrical outlets.

First, there is the electrical service surge protector. This is the largest type of protector that can be used in that it works to help protect the home from any power surges from the main power supply in the area. This works to lower the power level of a surge before it gets to the area where it is going to be used. It costs about two hundred dollars for a professionally installed protector here, but most new homes should have these installed already. Still, it is best to check to see if the home that is being used has one out of safety, as it is one of the most essential home safety tools to use.

Second, there is the cable and broadband protector. This is used by those who have cable television or broadband Internet access in the home. By hooking up the proper cables to the surge protector it will be easy for the surge protector to help with reducing power levels that are used by cable and broadband services. As a result the products will still work and the materials will be safer to use. It costs about a hundred dollars for a protector like this, and professional installation is available for it.

Third, there is the telephone protector. This works like a cable and broadband protector only that it has jacks for telephone wires. It will usually be installed next to the main source of phone power on the wall. It will also cost about a hundred dollars to use, and it can be professionally installed.

The last of the types of surge protectors is the point-of-use protector. This is one of the most common home safety tools that are used in homes. It plugs into a grounded outlet in the home and can have multiple outlets plugged into it. It helps to reduce power levels in all items so that they will still work properly and keep from causing any major damages. It costs between thirty to eighty dollars for one of these, and the value will be based on the size of the protector.

Those are the types of surge protectors that are commonly available for home use. These home safety tools all work for different parts of the home, and they all work for the same purpose. They help to reduce the risk of any power surges and therefore will make the home safer to be in.
